Welcome to my blog.
I don't have much to say, even after so many years of living.
Mostly I want to hear what other people have to say, and if they have any good pie recipes.
Recently I made a carrot cake, by the way, which was pretty good using a recipe from epicurious.com. Most of the recipes I have tried from that site have been pretty decent. This carrot cake was light and airy, and very moist. The frosting was sweetened with Maple Syrup, which gave it an earthy old fashioned feeling. The cake was made with fresh minced ginger.
We are coming into the holiday season, or as Mark calls it the holidaze season. It used to be a real difficult time for me, but this year may be better. I think about all the people who are lonely and estranged from their families, or just the people who are struggling financially.
I watched a television show for the first time featuring the cook Rachael Ray? She made a simple Italian dish in a folksy sort of way that was quite different from the approach used by someone like Martha Stewart. While it was refreshing, it was also disturbing to me on some level. I've always felt a little guilty about taking short cuts in the kitchen, and sincerely believe that they are usually a bargain made with the devil. Ms. Ray seems to be saying that its just fine to take the easy way out, and cook with that slap dash approach I find my self using when I'm beyond the point of exhaustion and just want to get something, anything on the table in 30 minutes or less.
